The Freestanding Fence

‘We used E&S Home improvement to build a privacy fence at our detached townhouse property. From start to finish they were professional and communicated clearly every step from start to finish. In addition, he took creative steps to minimize water damage over time to the fence and make maintenance as convenient and cheap as possible. Cannot recommend enough! Great quality workmanship and complete professionalism.’ - Rick D.

Townhouses are about the community that is being shared with your neighbors. For some, you can separate yourself with the tiny bit of privacy given or you can invite.

The client for this project is very much about the community they share. At the same time, wanted the privacy when enjoying their backyard. But this privacy could not prevent neighbors from visiting.

To allow neighbors over, the fence needed to be detached from the house and open in the back. This required wet setting the post deeper than usually required so that the fence can stand on its own. A horizontal approach was taken on the look, to break the house away from the typical vertical picket style seen in the neighborhood. Along with the boards, hidden fasteners were used in the field to give the cleanest look possible.

Other notes is taking care to use fasteners where possible to prevent water intrusion, as well as given the top of post a slanted cap that will shed water. To finish a semi-transparent stain was used to help protect the wood.
